Today we'll take a look at a rather nice portable speaker system, Soundlink 2 by Bose. Read full review. Bose has been established i 1964 by Amar Bose, who passed away last year. Bose is known for great quality sound. Good sound comes with a price though, so keep that in mind.
I have been using good amount of speakers for an iPhone playback. I started with Creative with dock station, then switched to a Bluetooth Creative speaker. As far as I remember, I paid about $30 for the docket station and about $50 for Creative Bluetooth speaker. I thought that the sound was quite good until my brother got Soundlink Mini. That box was nearly 5 times smaller than my Creative speaker, but the sound was much better. He paid about $200 for his.
I decided to get an upgrade and got myself a Soundlink II. Now, before you buy one for yourself, make sure you pay the right price, or below the right price. Simple way to check it is by going to Bose website and see how much it cost. Nylon version goes for $270 and leather for $315. At first I was planning to buy it on Apple Store, but they were selling Nylon for $300 and Leather for $350. I ended up going to Best Buy and paid retail price.
Soundlink II comes with rechargeable battery that will last about 8 hours.
When it comes to Nylon vs Leather, here is what I think. If you planning to take the speaker anywhere you go, go with Leather version, but if you are planning to have the speaker on your nightstand most of the time, save some money and get a Nylon version. I got myself a Nylon version ($270) and it looks pretty durable.
Soundlink II comes with registration card, manual, and a power cord. Setup was fairly easy. Once you connect your power cord, press ON button and then hold Bluetooth button for 3 seconds and release it. Find Soundlink in your iPhone or whatever device you are using and pair them. If it asks for PIN number, its 0000.
After that is done, all you have left to do is enjoy the sound. As far as I understand, Soundlink II has 4 speakers and two subwoofers, which is great for box that size. It's height is about the same as iPhone's height.
Now keep that in mind, you can get a speaker with decent sound under $50, but Bose will cost you more. Don't forget that Soundlink II comes with rechargeable battery, meaning you can take that speaker anywhere you go and it should keep you entertained around 8 hours. It's up to you how much you want to spend on a speaker, but I personally believe that Bose offers best sound for the best price. There are boxes for $500 and more, but $270 for Nylon version fits my budget for a speaker with superior sound.
You can also buy additional Nylon or Leather covers of Bose store. Nylon cost $40 and currently comes in Red, Blue, and Gray. Leather will cost you $60 and is available in Black, Tan, and Dark Brown. You can also get a car charger for $30.
Bose Soundlink II gets Editor's Choice for amazing sound.
