Otterbox Defender for iPhone 6
Today we’ll take a look at Otterbox and we’ll see if it is a good case for your brand new iPhone.
I just received my iPhone 6. It looks really nice, but at the same time it is pretty big. One of the differences between iPhone 6 and 5S is the sides of the phones. 5S had rectangular edges while 6 is round, meaning there may be more chances to accidently drop your new iPhone.
In the first couple hours of use of the iPhone 6, I came to conclusion that I’ll need to buy a good stable and strong iPhone case. I decided to give a try to Otterbox Defender series case. I ordered the case before iPhone 6 release and got the case in the mail one day after I received my iPhone.
I will not tell you how durable Otterbox is. Everybody knows that Otterbox is exceptionally durable and should protect iPhone from nearly all damages.
I’ll start from conclusion. I returned my Otterbox and now I’ll tell you why. There are couple things that were unacceptable with Otter box.
First one is the size. iPhone 6 is already pretty big and I was able to reach corner of the screen (hardly) with one hand. After I put the case on, I had to use two hands to reach corners. The size of the iPhone went from big to bigger.
Another big deal (and was a deal breaker to me) was the screen protector. Apple is known for super sensitive screen. With Otter box screen protector, I had to use more force to press on the screen. My only option was to cut the screen out, but I didn’t feel like going through the route when I remembered how huge the case is.
Other issue is the volume buttons are too hard. You have to put a lot of pressure to increase or decrease the volume level.
For protection, Otterbox is definitely a good buy, but keep in mind that when you gain protection, you lose comfort. Comfort is still my personal priority. What will I do now is I will look for a standard leather belt clip case and most likely will not put anything on my new iPhone. I’ll be careful with handling the new phone and if I happen to drop it I guess I’ll lose couple hundred dollars to get the screen replaced.
It is better for me than to spend $60 on a case that will make my phone look like Note or miniIpad and lose it’s perfect touch screen sensitivity.
